New Season Predictions?

So come on then, isn't anyone going to make any predictions for the season? Surely Sooty and Gerbil are going to bless us with their usual predictions? Anyone else care to make any predictions?

Gerbil's Top Ten Predictions for the New Season

1. The Reverend will have an 'interesting' new hair appearance. Notice I didn't say style!

2. The Eagles (probably despite me rather than instead of) will win the league again. Unbeaten!

3. Bearing in mind the table there will be, on average, about three 8-balls per home match at

Redruth RBL. Ok, maybe a slight exaggeration there but you know what I mean...

4. The Eagles' new signing to do quite well, but win no major comps. Go on Burrowski, prove me

wrong!

5. Clifty NOT to win the Captain's Cup.

6. RBL Sharks to have arguments with other teams, arguments between themselves, tears,

tantrums, threats to quit and handbags at ten paces. All in the space of a match.

7. Sole Plaice fish n chip shop in Camborne to thrash out a sponsorship deal with Darren Jenkin.

8. Mark Aleksy to very quickly get tired of being the only one drinking in the Pythons side.

9. Jamie Turnbull to be in the running for the aggregate, without ever really playing that well.

10. Paul Gee to play for 5 different teams (yep, a quiet season for him) before finishing up back at

Tyacks. Eeeeehhh, ba gum lad.

Genius prediction that son, seeing as there is no Captain's Cup in the Winter! Nostradamus eat your heart out! Anyway, where's Sooty with his daft predictions??? Also, the Sharks are very quiet these days.

Ah yes Mr Clift us sharks are going to do our talking on the baize this year and not on the message board! A few valuble lessons were learned last year by a few sharks but we are a season wiser this year a will not try to make the same mistakes again!

As for the predictions by sooty us sharks dont mind being under dogs as thiers no pressure on us like the eagles and highly fancy themselves BULLS!!!! As for the prediction of the sharks falling out with each other that couldnt be further from the truth! Theres a strong togetherness this year in the team!

After last nights game vs the wasps they will upset a few teams this year and anyone taking them lightly could be in for a shock!! As everyone know A vs B games never go to plan but still credit to the wasps last nite for a good game.

Could this league be getting stronger and the eagles are feeling the pressure of stronger sides or was it just a bad night at the office fo clifty & co? You decide!!

The bulls had a great start to the season and confidance must be high and alex must be fancying another bet that the bulls will win the league this year!! There cant be much of a credit crunch in Mr Lanes pocket if he puts a bet on again like that as money is no object to him???lol. Or has he learned his lesson!! Only time will tell!

The pythons will be dark horses this year and will be a hard team to beat and will be there abouts at the end of the season!

Hope everyone enjoys the season and may the best team win!!!

WARNING: What follows is a very long and boring post! (you've been warned!)

Good question and i'm probably not the best person to ask but i'd like to think the league is getting stronger. The aim when the league was first set-up was to make a more competitive league year on year and hopefully that is what's happening. Obviously in an ideal world we'd all like to have two divisions as then you wouldn't have the gap between top and bottom but who knows what may happen in the future. I do have a chuckle when some people tell me that the teams in the other Wednesday league could stuff the Eagles, Bulls etc. These same people seem to forget that it was the Eagles and Bulls who ran away with the league before the split, not to mention the fact that the Eagles went 5 seasons (yes 5) without losing a game and that was only over best of 9. The fact that the Eagles haven't gone one season in this league unbeaten suggests to me that this is a stronger league and getting stronger each season. The only way people can improve is by playing better opposition. Any big fish can swim in a small pond and rule it but it takes an even bigger fish to take the risk of swimming in bigger waters (i felt the need to highlight that as i think even Cantona would be impressed by those words of wisdom - feel free for others to use it). As League Co-Ordinator, it's satisfying to see all the teams in the league getting stronger each year and i think the players are improving as a whole. We've been lucky to have teams join that want to take up the challenge of this league and hopefully everyone who plays in the league enjoys themselves as that's the most important thing at the end of the day.

With regards to our loss last night, i wouldn't really say it was an off night for us, we've played worse than that and had big wins, no excuses, we were just beaten by the better team on the night and full respect to them. The scoreline was a fair reflection BUT i do believe that reports of our demise are greatly exaggerated! We'll be back and i'll happily take winning the league by one point...so long as we're more than ten points ahead of the Bulls!

Re: New Season Predictions?

Very wise words used there Mr Clift! This league is far stronger than the other redruth-camborne league and the format is far better too! There aint a side in that league that would finish in our top 5 teams. There are a few good players in that league but they must like being big fish in small ponds! Thats why i left that league as you were not tested each week and it got boreing to say the least. Maybe 1 day both leagues will join as 1 but i cant see it to be honest and the trophy hunters in the other league wouldnt like it as they would end up trophyless in this league as theres alot of quality spread around between the teams in this league!!

As for the demise of the red jackets i wouldnt really look into that too much! The rj's are a cracking outfit and a hard team to beat so losing 1 game means nothing! You boys lost a couple of games last year and still won the league so until its mathamatically sorted the rj's are in with a chance of winning the league.Remember Newcastle Utd a few years back were leading Man Utd by 12pts and a certain Mr Keegan saying " I'll luv it if we beat them,I'll luv it "!! We all know what happened there and Man Utd went on to win the league again!! All im saying is that writting the rj's off is a little premature!!

Re: New Season Predictions?

Just to add to mr clifts extensive post - as a committee member for the league and all banter a side theyre are good teams in the other league but this league has the cream of camborne/pool/redruth area by a mile. We all knew this was our chance to break away from the district leagues problems / bad administration, if you compare it to the darts world in the mid 90's when the PDC was formed it took a few years for it to get going but its by far the strongest brand now. I believe the future is bright for the league, our league has become stronger, more competitve , and if it means the red jackets losing a few more than their acustomed to so be it and im sure mr clift will agree !!!! But back to the banter, bring on the next game/victims !

After playing against RBL tonight, i couldn't help but laugh at your statement above! I can honestly say that i've never had one person spout so much rubbish when i've been at the table playing a game of pool before, absolutely hilarious! At least it wasn't just me who was singled out. Keep up the good work!

Myself and Tris played for my old man's Con Club side on Thursday in the Mining Pool League and we were away to the Redruth RBL side. There was just one of the RBL players who felt the need to be disrespectful to our side. I've no problem when it's aimed at me and Tris but when it's aimed at people he's never met before who are just out to play a game of pool one night a week then it's a bit sad especially when they're trying to play their shots. Just a one-off i hope as he's been completely respectful when he's played the Eagles before. The rest of the RBL side were fine and kept apologising for him, it was good to put a face to the name of some of the Wasps players...although a bit late to help me with my Fantasy Pool side! Also, compliments to the chef as the food was top notch as always.

Re: New Season Predictions?

Well it is totally out of order for what has happened! After all i wrote about people learning lessons on my previous post makes a real mockery of it really doesn't it!! I know Paul Broad is not very impressed with what has happened and is going to deal with it as hes the sports sec for the leege.

I was there and it was out of order agree with mr clifts comment pool is meant for enjoyment. being an insider of the club and knowing the effort murphs has put in attemting to deal with this sort of behavouir as he as said he will deal with it. murphys a top bloak and it was great to play the legion derby on my birthday nite. back to the matter at hand his actions were apologised for by several including myself. i dnt think the actions would of happened if there wasnt any alcohol on board. im sure there will be an apology in the away fixture. As the wasps moto is "play in the spirit of the game"
