Now as the West Briton took it upon themselves to cut most of the report today, as well as put that the registration night is on Monday and not the week after, for those of you White Hart players who were looking forward to reading about your win last wek, here is the report in all it's glory (before the West Briton cut it!):
History was made at the White Hart in the final week of the season in the Jolly's Camborne-Redruth Premier Pool League as the Bulls defeated the Red Jackets Eagles for the first time. With both teams being fierce rivals since 2001, the win had been a long time coming and jubilant scenes from the Bulls at the end were testament to this.
It was the champions who got off to the better start as Gareth Ball defeated Simon O'Mahony after the Bulls player let slip a commanding position in the frame. The lead was short-lived though as Richard Ash put in a captain's performance and cleared the table after Eagles' Dave Metcalfe broke off. The third frame also appeared to be going the way of the home side as Lewis Saundry went to the table and potted all seven of his colours but a lapse positional shot left him with a tricky black which he didn't manage to pot and from there the Red Jackets captain Adam Clift turned the frame around and ultimately put his side back in front again. This was to be the last time though as the Bulls went on a charge as first new signing Chris 'the Beast' Bray cleared up well to defeat Tristan Prigg to tie the scores again and then White Hart stalwart Alex Lane came back to defeat Andy Jory after the Eagles player missed a crucial long black. The final singles frame appeared to be going to Red Jackets' Jamie Turnbull but a loose tactical shot proved to be his undoing as Gary Stephens pounced to clear up and put his side 4-2 up, the first time in the whole season that the Eagles trailed going into the doubles. With that in mind it was imperative that the away side won the next frame to have any chance of coming back but it didn't look good as the Bull's pairing of O'Mahony and Lane went about clearing up from the break but once again a long missed black went punished as Clift and Ball stepped in to clear up with their first visit and pull the match back to within one frame. The second doubles was one-way traffic though as Ash and Bray were in inspired form, only allowing the pairing of Metcalfe and Prigg one shot before clearing up and putting the Bulls on the brink of an historic victory. Jory and Turnbull kept the champions hopes of a comeback alive with a dogged performance to make the score 5-4 to the home side with just the trebles remaining but there was only going to be one team winning as once again the Bulls pulled off a fine clearance after allowing their opponents just one visit before O'Mahony, Lane and Saundry combined to guarantee the bonus point. The final frame also went the Bulls way and the 7-4 scoreline was the least they deserved with some clinical finishing on the night. Despite the loss, the Red Jackets Eagles finished eighteen points clear to retain their Summer League title. The Eagles squad for the season: Adam Clift, Gareth Ball, Rob Goldsworthy, Andy Jory, Dave Metcalfe, Tristan Prigg and Jamie Turnbull.
Paul Murphy's Redruth RBL Sharks guaranteed their runners-up spot in style as they ran out 9-2 winners at home to Grenville Arms. Second spot is a fantastic achievement for the Redruth side in their first season in the league and, with their youthful squad, they could well go on to be the team to beat in the coming years. Sharks squad for the season: Paul Murphy, Rob Charman, Liam Blenes, Andrew Cowper, Troy Lynes, Shaun Wills, Dan Wills, Paul Broad, Mark Moyle, Nigel Andrew and Phil Lane.
Elsewhere, the Tyacks Pythons and White Hart Stags both finished the season on a high, the Pythons with a 9-2 victory away to the Lounge Bar Leopards and the Stags defeating Illogan RBL 8-3.
